Guidelines for Engagement
Members of the Fair Education Alliance (FEA) are united by a vision of an education system where no child’s success is limited by their socioeconomic background and work collectively towards this goal.
Membership commitment:
As a member of the Fair Education Alliance:
We believe that we can achieve greater progress for children and young people by working together than we can alone.
We are committed to leading and upholding the FEA’s values.
We are committed to working with other organisations across the sector towards a fair education system for all children and young people through:
spreading a unified collective message about what we want for education in England and how we can achieve it
increasing connectivity and coordination across the education system
achieving a more diverse leadership of the education agenda
ensuring that solutions to issues in education are scaled systemically and based on need
We communicate and raise awareness of our membership of the Fair Education Alliance.
This includes publicly stating membership of the Fair Education Alliance (FEA) externally and promoting our collective work within your organisation to senior leaders, within your wider networks, and through communications channels such as newsletters and social media.
We are an active and engaged member.
As part of active membership, members are expected to complete our member questionnaire, keep their contact details up to date and attend our Fair Education Summit (one senior leader from each member organisation.)
We are committed to sharing our reach data through the membership tools (if relevant.)
We have up-to-date child-safeguarding policies in place for the organisation.
The requirement for a safeguarding policy is reduced if your organisation does not work directly with children, young people or vulnerable adults. If you are in any doubt, please email youth@faireducation.org.uk.
Guidelines for engagement:
The Fair Education Alliance secretariat runs activities and events to support member organisations to work together to fulfil our collective goals. Active involvement in these activities is encouraged and we ask that as a minimum, all member organisations partake (either as a participant or lead) in at least one activity per year, in addition to attending the Fair Education Summit.
Members can get involved in:
Working Groups
Our Collective Action Working Groups work together to reduce education inequality and share expertise across the sector. We invite every member to participate in or lead these groups.
Policy influencing work:
Add your collective voice to our policy asks, which are built around membership consensus, and take the opportunity to participate in government consultations. Find out more about our current policy asks in our Fair Education Manifesto.
Use our Membership Tools
Add your data to our Membership Directory and Ecosystem Map. Use this to connect with other members, identify places that could benefit from your organisation’s work and gather useful information to support your strategy.
Attend FEA events
Connect and collaborate with other members across the alliance for example the Fair Education Summit and our Innovation and Scale Booster.
Become a Fair Education Award winner:
Apply for our Fair Education Awards. The Scaling Award is open exclusively to members of the Alliance and the Innovation Award is open to both members of the Alliance and the general public.
Support our Fair Education Award winners:
Members can support our Fair Education Award winners by sitting on selection panels and providing expert support for award winners throughout the year. You can promote the Innovation Award by inviting individuals in your networks to apply.
The Fair Education Alliance thrives from engaged and passionate members, and we aim to provide opportunities for all members to play an active part. If, for any reason, you have not engaged with FEA activities for 12 consecutive months we will get in touch to find out how we can help support you in your membership and help you reengage. We recognise that, from time to time, it is appropriate to end membership of the Alliance. If you have any questions or concerns during your membership, please contact info@faireducation.org.uk
