Magic Breakfast

At Magic Breakfast we know that a nutritious breakfast is the best start to the day for children and young people everywhere. For over 20 years, we have worked hard to provide breakfasts without judgement or barriers – making sure every child feels included and ready to learn.

We know our programme makes a difference in tackling educational inequality. An evaluation carried out by the Education Endowment Foundation found that Year 2 pupils in schools with a Magic Breakfast achieved an additional two months’ progress over the course of an academic year.

We have scaled our frontline operations and significantly increased our reach over the past few years. We are delighted for the opportunity the Scaling Award brings for us to deepen our impact and scale to areas of greatest need, including by:

  • Helping us review our eligibility criteria and ensuring we are targeting our provision to ensure we target need and scale effectively.

  • Providing us with 121 strategic and operational support, including developing our internal performance management, financial reporting and people managers.

  • Offering us access to a network of sector leaders, mentors and peers and enabling us to make huge strides by accessing the incredible network of the FEA.

The FEA are proud to endorse Magic Breakfast as a Scaling Award Winner. Given the cost of living crisis and rising poverty and the impact we’re seeing this have on families, the panel felt that there is more need for this organisation’s work than ever. With a current reach of nearly ¼ of a million students across England, the panel were excited about the systemic impact that their work could have on both health and educational outcomes for pupils and is looking forward to supporting them on their journey to achieve this.
