UCAS joins the Fair Education Alliance

The Fair Education Alliance is pleased to announce that UCAS has become the newest member of the Fair Education Alliance, a coalition made up of leading UK organisations to address the persistent educational achievement gap between young people from the poorest communities and their wealthier peers.

UCAS is the UK's shared admissions service for higher education, and manages applications from around 700,000 people each year for full-time undergraduate courses at over 370 providers across the UK, as well as offering impartial advice and guidance on all aspect of post-16 education.  It publishes extensive data on university applications and admissions.

Mary Curnock Cook, Chief Executive of UCAS said: “For a long time, through our published data, we have been drawing attention to the inequalities of opportunity that disadvantaged young people face.  UCAS is at the heart of connecting people to higher education, and we are proud to be working alongside a coalition of committed organisations working together to raise both aspirations and achievements across the poorest sections of our society.”

Lewis Iwu, Director of the Fair Education Alliance, said: “We’re delighted that UCAS has become a member of the Alliance. UCAS is one of the key stakeholders in higher education so will undoubtedly be a powerful addition to the movement.”

The Fair Education Alliance will publish their state of the nation report tomorrow.
